My Charleston story:
When I first bought seeds, not knowing much at all about the many cvs….I went for the look of the flowers. of course the sellers only use the very best pics of the parents, so they all look gorgeous.
At that stage I had fallen completely for the very beautiful Charleston, so each time seeds were offered on eBay with Charleston in them, I bid for them…..I won 4 different crosses from Volker Sanders.
Angels Flight x Charleston....
Joli x Charleston...
Charleston x Apricot Queen…
Charleston x (Bergfeuer x SuperSpot)
Of these, I raised 3 of the J x Ch…
2 of the AF x Ch....
2 of the Ch x AQ…..
1 of the CH x (Bgf x SS)...
Now CHA CHA.
This is the Angels Flight x Charleston....the colours in this cv are wonderful.
It didn't flower last year, I had to dig it up and put it in a pot...The Aureas hybrids growing near, were crowding it out...so this Autumn I am expecting to see the colours again, fingers crossed...
Below.....This is the Charleston x Apricot Queen, (culled) the white is so white in this one, I have been told that Charleston is a very clear white too...
battered the flowers before they have a chance to drop their second corolla.
The flower is very large so it is very vulnerable..
This year I removed the plant and took a trunk cutting, which I have in a protected position
So with a bit of luck it should be able to bloom
without damage to those lovely flowers.
still waiting for the cutting to bloom, we might be lucky...
The 3 Joli x Charlestons, 2 of which are white and 1 is pink, they are all keepers..
Here they are...
Below and right.....This is J x Ch #1
Below: Joli x Charleston # 3 'RUBY ROSE'
There were only a few flowers for the first flush of Joli x Charleston #3, so the next flush will be interesting...
And interesting it was, it has turned out to be one of the loveliest pinks in my collection..
Unfortunately the wind took the bride for a ride and that ended the honeymoon and the prospect of seeds...but we will try again...
Below.. Joli x Charleston #2 a snow white single
Below....Charleston x (Bergfeuer x SuperSpot)
this has been registered as Daddy Long Legs......
This is a most beautiful double white..
There is still one to flower, it's another Charleston x Apricot Queen, Hopefully it will be this Autumn.
Whatever it turns out to be, I have to say that as a parent Charleston produces some very pretty cultivars and I'm very pleased that I chose it to start my collection..
Here is the Charleston x Apricot Queen #2, only 2 flowers in late Autumn but they had 4 corollas and were beautiful...they are a bit wind blown in the best of these pics, but they show such promise.
