The 'Cold' group from seed.

The 'Cold' Brugmansias came late to my garden, firstly because the seeds weren't available locally and even though Sanguineas were quite common, no one was growing the hybrids...
So a group of Victorian enthusiasts began bringing in seed hybridised by Alan Ashworth 'Hurstwood' in the UK and Michael Graupe in the US.
Those seeds certainly were succesful and we now have a very pretty collection of hybrids that is increasing very quickly.

Here are some of mine.

This is Rosa Lila x Hurstwood Bow..
It was such a pleasant surprise, when this one turned out to be such a pretty lilac.Added to the colour is the fact that it is lightly perfumed,,,,it's the Arborea in it's genes.

..This one is a mouthful...it's (Hurstwood Bryony x (Sang x Amethyst 5) x (Sang x Amethyst 4)2
It's a very colourful one, so as soon as it's eligible, I will give it a name.

I quite like that white throat.

the colours are really jewel like....

This next one is a B.Strybing vulsa x Sanguinea...
It's a pale little thing with it's kisses of peach….unfortunately, it's a rampant grower…

Left…...But such a wonderful shape and a delicate colour…….
..

Mobisu xViolet Velvet.... this one really is lovely, the colour  petal tips turn back so elegantly...

Below is Hurstwood Briony x Hurstwood Hannah.
it's a nice little thing, it would be better if the colour went all the way up the corolla, but I still like it..

I crossed H.B x H.H with
 (Hurstwood Bryony x (Sang x Amethyst 5) x (Sang x Amethyst 4)
and the pod has held on thru all the 40+C days.

More to come….

  1. Beautiful Dianne! What a lovely garden you grow. I love the long necks on your cold group, ahhh...how I wish I could grow them. But I can always admire yours :)
