It a very cold winter 2015.

The colour of Winter in Australia is yellow so even though this is a mainly Brugmansia blog there is a place for a Mt Morgan wattle.

                                         Danny Boy
A newly registered cultivar El Dorado x Butterfly.
Wonderful perfume
Big yellow flowers with long corolla tips

                                                   Culebra showing 10 points.

Culebra just keeps getting better..lovely perfume and interesting blooms.

The sanguineas are all starting to bud up for another flush. They compliment the Camellias beautifully..

Little Elegant Angel was white for quite some time, I thought that it was going to stay white, considering it's been the coldest winter for 30 yrs..
Here she is a few days later

This lilac sphaero is always in flower, except for the hottest months..

Even Fiesta is pale in the cold though she still tries.
Here she is with one of her many pods..

Autumn is mild in 2015

At last it's Autumn....perfect weather for the Brumansias.
There were a few new cultivars to flower....nothing spectacular but still a couple of good ones to keep. This white changing to cream cultivar was a disappointment..
It was an Angels Exotic x Teri Shindler Schiavo.....then I thought about keeping it at least until the crosses that I made with it developed. I used Senorita Rosada as the pollen donor and all the pods are growing well...it has a lovely perfume and interesting parents so it will be fun to see what develops.

Its a very good flusher and the corolla texture is very firm.
On the plus side as well, it flowered at a reasonable size and age..
Perhaps now that I think about it, I might lose that with the Senorita...she has a lot of aurea in those genes.

This Rosalla x Sam is a good case for holding your Brugmansias for a few flushes..

the first time it bloomed it was a very ugly misshapen flower, next year the same...But on the 3rd flush
it showed what it could do...it's a pod sister to The Showgirl.

The Sphaeros were starting to bloom. So were the Hellebores.

And the Alstomerias

Beginning the 2014/2015 growing season.

Season 2014/2015:

Opening the new season with Peach Fantasy is a great way to go.
Our weather hasn't been kind, with the winds being very destructive and the temperature up one minute and down the next.

As you can see poor Peach Fantasy is a bit tattered, but still very pretty.
I will use it in my hybridising this year.Personally I like it just the way it is, I am not out to improve it in any way. Though the thought of crossing it with others that change colour as much as it does is tempting.
This Arborea has grown and flowered from a very old seed, I thought that it was something else growing, but it turned out to be an Arborea.
I was very pleased as I didn't have one and it will be very useful if I get into hybridising the Sphaeros at any stage...it has two pods on it, it's own and I used it to cross with these two Sang hybrids just to try it..
The Arborea might put some perfume into their offspring, I hope that it doesn't make the seedlings too pale. We'll see how they go. The pods are very fast growing, I will be able to plant them early summer.

Grasshopper's Choice has started the year early, yellow singles as usual with throats full of petaloids.
This one is proving to be so interesting, first yellow singles then the orange doubles and yellow singles and last season it produced a 10 pointer....
I have quite a few of it's seedlings growing too, so fingers crossed for them.

The first Coldie for the season is this Mobisu x Violet Velvet. I thought that it would change colour as all the others have after a couple of days..
No way, it's staying this colour!

It looks as though I will have to wait for another flush to see it's true colour.
There are seven buds to open from this first flush.

Jean Briggs gave me her green Sphaero (Working name Green Baby) so I hope it grows ok, she had to cut it down to about 15 cms so she could post it. It is looking ok and putting out tiny shoots.
She has chosen a great name for it, we just have to get the cuttings to grow...
I have tried air layering them, so now I just have to wait.
I will post any results here...

The Ruffles & Flourishes x Bergkönigin is now registered as

FIESTA
Here is the first bloom for the season.

What a colourful Autumn for 2014...it's been amazing...

Autumn 2014:

It's almost finished for the year and the flushes this autumn have been brilliant....
Now that we have planted the mother plants there are only the newer cultivars in pots except of course for Ray's Mayas..they will stay in situ for some years to come I would imagine..
The perfume in the garden is wonderful and it wafts into the bedrooms.

This will always be my favourite when it comes to colour, it has them all and you never know which colour it will open to......Ruffles & Flourishes x Bergkönigin.....I will have to name it this year...

Then there was THE DANCER showing off her colours and her 6 petal tips....

This is the richest orange that I have seen, it is just gorgeous.....LBG x Bergfeuer

Though without a doubt Elegant Angel is still my favourite...no changing colours for this lady..

I just had to include this one, not really correct with that (I'm not sure what I am) corolla or calyx, but the hot pink with the green striped top look terrific....
All purists please shut your eyes...

Just to finish off the Autumn, here are a few random pics that I have chosen from the garden
It's been a terrific time and as my Brugmansia population ages, I'm sure that there will be a lot more to come...

Even the whites got in on the act and turned apricot.....they are very pretty,,

Peach Fantasy decided to put on extra skirts and ended up with 4 of them, I wonder if she'll do that this spring?

No matter what colour The Dancer is, she is always recognisable...
Joli x Charleston, such a lovely shape.

Finally Brilliant Orange, Pink Panther and Platinum Blonde at the top...
